When we say that someone "got what they deserved" we're usually thinking in terms of that person being punished, or worse. When Jesus came, did he come to give humanity what we deserved? If so, what did that look like?
Isaiah saw a shoot coming up from the stump of Jesse. John the Baptist said an axe was laid to the root of the trees. What if the tree that both Isaiah and John saw was the cross?
Isaiah prophesied a time when nations would turn swords into plowshares...tanks into combines, if you will. This time that Isaiah saw was the time in which the Messiah was to come. The Messiah came 2000 years ago. Why haven't we seen Isaiah's expectations come to pass?
